Twisted Cinema – Kiki’s Delivery Service

Kiki's Delivery Service

Kiki’s Delivery Service

Hello everyone

this week I spent quite a long time thinking about what film to make for Twisted Cinema, it was while chatting to my friend Tom that I decided to do a scene from the Studio Ghibli animated film ‘Kiki’s Delivery Service’. Tom was pleased about this idea as it is one of his favourite Studio Ghibli films. The film tells the story of Kiki who while training to be a witch sets up a delivery service with her talking cat, I won’t say too much about the film because 1, I don’t want to spoil it for you and 2, I have never seen it (its on my list of films to watch).

It took me a good few hours to put this photograph together, I started making Kiki’s head, The actual basic main head and face is made up of 3 balloons, there is a central round balloon, then a small balloon for the nose and then these 2 balloons are inside a third balloon which is the one you can see (it all sounds very complicated).. The hair and Bow were next and then I made my way down the body adding in the arms, legs, broom and finally the satchel and Jiji the cat. The next thing I had to do was create the photograph, the background I drew using photoshop and then I added in the balloon sculpture on top of that.

Kiki and Jiji are currently flying around the HMV store in Gunwharf Quays (when I say flying I positioned above the tills), you can head in in and see her in there during the next few days.

Next week I am off to the London Balloon Jam (in London), it is on Tuesday the 10th Feb at the Water Poet in Folgate St. If you are a balloon twister and you are free and in the area then it is well worth a visit. it is totally free to attend, all we ask is that you buy some drinks and maybe some food from the pub. It starts at 4pm and goes on until around 10pm. If you are interested in coming along then let me know and I can supply you will all the details.

Have a lovely week everyone

Rob
